For most of us this year has been one of the worst years of our lives. It took away so many of the things that we took for granted, like the ability to see live music, drink beers with our friends at our favorite watering holes, and in some cases, toilet paper. But one thing this year did not take away, could not take away, was the Blue Island Radio Podcast’s annual Seinfeld episode! This year, for your listening pleasure, the Blue Island Radio Podcast Players present a dramatic reading of SEINFELD: THE PICK - season 4, Episode 13. I hope you enjoy the listening to the show as much as we enjoyed recording it. Thank you for listening and happy holidays for whatever it is you celebrate.

On today's episode Brandon pays tribute to the "architect" and real king of rock n roll, Little Richard, whose song Tutti Frutti was recorded 65 years ago this month. The song blew the doors off of its predecessors and laid the foundation for all rock songs that would follow. He also opened the doors for gender bending rock stars like David Bowie, Mick Jagger, Prince and more.

You'll hear some hits, some slightly more obscure Little Richard songs, as well as music from some of his influences like Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Esquerita, Billy Wright and Roy Brown.

On today's episode of Flashback Friday it's Brandon's birthday and he leans heavy into the garage and punk tunes on this. Give it a listen and tell Brandon how bad he sounds on the mic.

This flashback was recorded about 17 years ago at WBAR, which is the student run radio station at Barnard College in New York. Every summer they would open up the station to pretty much anybody who wanted to do a show and of course, I was one of those people. I haven't listened to this recording in about 15 years and I'm sure it's full of mistakes and bad segues but hey, I'm pretty sure the music was pretty decent! Anyway, leave a comment and let me know what you think because there's probably going to be more!

Jul 21, 2020

This is the first episode of the Blue Island Radio Podcast talk show Burning Bridges. For this first episode we welcome Dave Brown (Rock Island Public House) and Brian Lisula (shit talker) to our new outdoor studio to talk about burning bridges, figuratively and literally, and then some.

On today's episode Brandon plays songs in honor of some of the day that are often overlooked, like National Bikini Day, Take Your Plant for a Walk Day, World UFO Day and so many more! Thanks for listening.

Songs of protest, pride, anger, survival, frustration, despair, hope and struggle, a struggle that's been going on for far too long. Sadly, when a lot of these songs first appeared the artists who wrote them probably had no idea that they'd still be relevant, still be fighting for peace & equality some 40 - 50 years ago. If you're still struggle with how we got here or looking for causes you can donate to here is a small list of resources.

Thank you for listening, go in peace.

Hi, this is Brandon, and on today's episode I'll be speaking with musician "Scary" Larry Montet, who has been in and around the Chicago music scene for more than 30 years. Not only that but he is also my cousin. We talk about some the bands that were in and around Blue Island back in the early days, some of the joints he hung out at on the north side, and the difficulties of keeping a band together. His long running band The Gravetones have a new record that they are up and we'll take a quick listen to one of the tracks 2 pennies 1 ride. Thank for listening.

Andre Williams made music for more than 60 years and played everything from soul, to country, to garage and more. Even though he co-wrote one of the most used songs movies & TV his contribution to the world of music is often over looked. Not only that but his raw brand of soul, humor, and crude talking style of singing is often sighted as an early influence on rap. In other words, this episode is long over due and I apologize.

Apr 8, 2020

On today's episode of the show Brandon makes some calls and to old friends in different parts of the country, people he hasn't spoken to in years, and checks on their well-being. He finds out how they are navigating through the treacherous circumstances we are all currently facing and then asks them to tell an embarrassing story about Brandon. Thanks for listening.

For April Fools Day, a day I never understood, we decided to shake things up a bit; do something a little different. It's nutty, it's wild it's . . . well, it's a podcast so try and keep your expectations in check. Anyway, this was recorded in the waning days of "normalcy", before the creeping death swept in and took over our lives, sweeping us into an existential crisis that can only be solved by hording toilet paper!!! So enjoy the show.

On today’s episode of the podcast Brandon turns his attention to the great state of Minnesota. He has a special place in his heart for the 32nd state, particularly Minneapolis where he spent his sophomore
year of high school going to shows at First Ave. 7th St. Entry and playing pinball at that one arcade that used to be a few doors down from the Gay 90s Bar whose name he unfortunately can’t remember. Can someone please remind him what it was called? Anyway, you will hear 21 songs from bands and musicians from Minnesota; everything from Augie Garcia to The Libido Boyz, which is where we got the title of the episode.
