There are thousands of songs that are either about a bird, use the imagery of birds, have the name of a bird in the title etc. In fact, with the exception of maybe "Love", there are probably more "bird" songs than any other type of song. On today's episode we will be listening to songs about ducks, chickens, turkeys, eagles and even a jailbird.

he Gestures were an early rock band from Mankato, Minnesota and their first single “Run, Run, Run” is today’s song of the week. Several bands from the 1960s had songs titled ‘Run Run Run’ (with and without commas) including The Who, The Velvet Underground and The Third Rail, but The Gestures were first; though none of them had much in common outside of their names. The song made it to 44 on the Billboard Hot 100 in December of 1964, and the band made an appearance on American Bandstand and toured across the Midwest and Canada in 1965. But due to lack of distribution and some confusion over which song was supposed to be the A Side of their next single, it wasn’t long before the band broke up.

THE SOUNDS of WISCONSIN - PART 1 - THE EARLY DAYS

On today’s episode of the podcast Brandon stays close to home and explores the musical lineage of his neighbor to the north, the land of beer and cheese, Wisconsin! Part one of two episodes, this first collection of songs will focus primarily on the music being made in the areas surrounding the big bad city of Milwaukee from the 1950s - 1970. And part two will focus almost exclusively on Milwaukee from the 1970s and beyond.
